The importance of shutters for skylights

November 20, 2019

Atmospheric influences in the first place, privacy in the second place - just like the protection you need on the facade windows, so does the sunroof (and maybe even more so). Therefore, the comfort you need in your attic not only involves the purchase and installation of a skylight but also adequate protection in the form of external and internal shutters with the help of which, at will, you can completely darken the space and thus enjoy the intimacy of your room.

In addition to protection from rain, sun or snow, as well as curious views, it is important to mention the ability of sound insulation that these shutters have, and, what interests most of you - they provide a high degree of energy savings in winter (up to 27% improvement in insulation). They can also be significant in protecting against possible burglaries.

Here are some of our suggestions for blinds like this and an explanation to help you choose each one according to your needs and habits.

Insect/fly screen for skylights

You get bored with chasing insects all summer long, and especially in the loft, you convert? A particularly useful product for those who want to protect themselves from these annoying things is an insect/fly screen that is made only for skylights and provides complete protection against these unwanted guests.

Also known as mosquito nets, this type of shutters is installed from the inside to the inside lining around the skylight. When not in use, it can be placed in a matt aluminium frame that will completely hide it so that it does not obstruct the view through the window.

The mosquito nets are very easy to use: you can adjust it from the room manually and you can easily clean it with only cloth and water.

It is very important to know that when the mosquito net is lowered, the window opens to the edge of the wall and the interior lining, which is sufficient for ventilation. Also, at the top of all models of near sunroofs, there is a vent that allows ventilation even when the window is closed.

The external mesh

For effective heat protection, install an external mesh for skylights (awning) that can solve one of the biggest problems with staying in the loft as it reduces heat by up to 73%. Ideally, this may mean that you do not need air conditioning in the summer.

This awning is designed for any room and is mounted on the outside of the skylight to protect the glass from heating. This also reduces the heat radiation into the room, and light is let through.

Total blackout blinds

If you're tired of waking up at dawn because the sun's rays go directly into your eyes, these shutters are the right thing for you. We know that a peaceful, quality and comfortable sleep requires optimal darkening, and this is probably best known by parents whose toddlers wake up with the first rays of the sun. The perfect solution for attic bedrooms (either children's or yours) are blinds for total blackout.

This roller shutter can be stopped in any position thanks to the aluminium guides. The sides of the side guides are painted black to ensure complete light blockage.

Today there are different patterns and colours of these shutters, so we are sure that you or your child will find something to your liking. These patterns also allow the incoming light to soften and allow you to enjoy the comfort your home provides.
